Lot 4 [McCay] The dinosaur in the picture is remarkably similar to McCay s Gertie the Dinosaur of 1914, one of the first animated cartoons in America. This political cartoon was drawn within a year or two of the film.
Lot 24 [LaGatta] The date of January 20, 1933 appears on the back of the artwork along with the initials L.W.D., or possibly L.W.A.
Lot 29 [Pyle] the estimate should read $70,000 - 90,000.
Lot 57 [Yohn] The piece appeared in the magazine serialization of "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" by John Fox, Jr. Thanks Bob.
Lot 76 [Vargas] The Peru exhibit where he recieved Peru's Legion of Honor, was in Aug/Sept of 1958. Reid Austin wrote us the following: "Joe DeMartini saw this on Alberto's easel in the studio in '55 or '56 Alberto said he was sending it to England which would suggest it was for a series he did in 55 and 56 for Men Only, a British mag. Despite the fading this is inspired Vargas in complete command."
Lot 88 [Ellen Pyle] The sitter is the artist 's daughter, Caroline, at age 14. Provenance: Nathaniel C. Wyeth. Lot 97 [Kilvert] The last panel of the series is signed, lower right.
Lot 100 [Sendak] The drawing appears on p. 53 of the book.
Lot 108 [Outhwaite] The estimate should read $6,000 - 8,000.
Lot 109 [Appleton] The estimate should read $3,000 - 6,000.

Lot 151 [Fabry] The piece relates to the musical revue "At Home Abroad", which opened on Broadway on September 19, 1935. Depicted are Beatrice Lillie, Arthur Schwartz (music) and Howard Dietz (lyrics). The work probably appeared in Collier's magazine in August or September of 1935. The caption in the magazine was as follows: "The Dowager Lady Peel [a.k.a. Beatrice Lillie] and her authors, Messrs. Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz, prepare to open 'At Home Abroad' as the musical curtain-raiser of another season. The duskier lily will carry the same show's drolleries from the treble playing fields of Eton to throatier octaves underneath the Harlem moon: Miss Ethel Waters and the Six Spirits of Rhythm" - Thanks, Peter.
