| x | In this portrait, Vail, depicted as he would have looked around 1910, surrounded by objects emblematic of his career, as he was instrumental to the globalization of telephone communications. The lot includes a copy of the 50th Anniversary issue of Topics, a house publication of AT& T. This issue features the completed portrait on the cover as well as a complete reproduction of the vast mural Cornwell made for the headquarters, entitled, ÒTelephone Men and Women at WorkÓ. In her biography of Cornwell, Pat Broder dates the portraits ca. 1953, and it is likely that they were rather new at the time they were showcased in this issue. | x | |||||||||
