| x | Lawson is famous for his children's book illustrations, especially for Ferdinand the Bull and Rabbit Hill. Lawson was the first artist to win both a Caldecott medal (for illustration) and a Newbery award (for writing). In general, his work is scarce. This may be the only instance of Lawson's advertising art known to exist; we have never heard of another. The advertiser added a strong blue-green background color across the image, covering over the artist's subtle cloud effects. Though the material is now banned, asbestos tiles were popular in the 1920s for their durability and resistance to heat and cold. And...not even Jack Frost's biggest icicle would break them. | x | |||||||||
